🧺 How to Wash 100% Wool
Each yarn has its own instructions, reported on the label and in the product sheet. In general:
- Virgin wool and pure wool: hand wash or low-temperature wool cycle, 30 °C, with a delicate detergent.
- Do not wring or rub. To prevent the fiber from felting, press the garment in a towel and lay it flat to dry.
- Superwash: some product sheets indicate machine washing, for example at 40 °C for Lana 100% Baby Aquarelle and Merino Extrafine Color 120.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions About 100% Wool
What does 100% wool mean?
It means that the yarn is made entirely of wool, without blends of acrylic or other synthetic fibers. On this page you will also find three yarns with a small proportion of other fibers, listed separately.
What is the difference between virgin wool and pure wool?
Virgin wool is obtained directly from shearing and not from recycled fibers; "pure wool" means that the yarn is made entirely of wool. The two often coincide: for example, Lana Camilla is 100% pure virgin wool.
How do you wash 100% wool?
Generally by hand or using the wool cycle at 30°C, with a mild detergent, without wringing or rubbing, and drying flat. Always check the label: some superwash yarns can be machine washed.
What does mulesing-free mean?
It indicates wool from farms that do not practice mulesing. You can find it, for example, in Lana Poema, Lana Crazy and Lana Oboe.
What is superwash wool?
It is wool treated to be machine washable, if indicated on the label. It is the most practical choice for blankets and children's garments, such as DMC Lana 100% Baby 3.
What is the difference between 100% wool and wool blend?
100% wool contains only wool. In a wool blend, wool is combined with other fibers, such as acrylic or microfiber, to make it cheaper or easier to wash. For blends, see the wool blend collection.
What needles should I use with 100% wool?
It depends on the yarn: the skeins on this page range from 2 mm needles for lace yarns to 8–9 mm needles for chunky yarns. The recommended size is listed on each product page.
Where can I buy 100% wool online?
