🔗 The essential accessory
Snap hooks are the element that transforms a handmade bag into a professional accessory. They allow you to attach shoulder straps, handles, and chains securely and quickly, ensuring immediate opening and closing without compromising strength. Available in various metal finishes such as gold, silver, and brass, they adapt to any handmade bag style.
Whether you are making a crochet bag, a cord shopper, or a faux leather shoulder bag, snap hooks offer the convenience of a professional attachment system. The sizes vary from 17mm to 42mm in internal diameter, allowing you to choose the perfect size for every project.
🧬 Materials and finishes: strength and style
The hooks are made of durable metal — stainless steel, brass, or metal alloys — chosen to ensure longevity and resistance to daily wear. Stainless steel is particularly appreciated for its lightness and corrosion resistance, ideal for bags used frequently. Brass, on the other hand, offers a touch of classic elegance and lends itself to high-quality gold finishes.
The galvanic finishes available — gold, silver, gunmetal — allow you to match the hooks to the style of the bag. A gold finish enhances elegant bags and evening accessories, while silver fits perfectly with modern and minimalist designs. The choice of material and finish directly influences the final aesthetic of the project.
📦 Available types
Snap hooks with a loop are ideal for attaching shoulder straps made of crocheted or knitted fabric. The loop allows you to insert the fabric directly, ensuring a secure attachment without the need for intermediate rings. Perfect for bags with removable shoulder straps.
Swivel snap hooks feature a rotating mechanism that prevents the strap from twisting during use. This feature is fundamental for long shoulder bags worn over the shoulder: the natural movement of the body does not create annoying twists. Small snap hooks (17-25mm diameter) are designed for clutches, mini bags, and delicate accessories.
📏 How to choose the right size
The choice of hook size depends on the type of bag and the weight it will have to support. For clutches and mini bags, hooks with an internal diameter of 17-25mm are sufficient. For medium bags and shoppers, sizes of 28-35mm are recommended, which guarantee strength without visually weighing down the design.
For large bags, heavy-duty straps, and leather goods, 40-42mm hooks offer maximum strength and security. Always consider the thickness of the strap or handle: the internal diameter of the hook must allow the fabric or chain to pass through easily.
✨ Why choose snap hooks
Compared to other attachment systems like fixed rings or snap buttons, snap hooks offer the convenience of being able to change the strap or handle in just a few seconds. This is particularly useful for those who make bags with interchangeable straps or for those who want to customize the bag's style based on the occasion.
The internal spring ensures a secure closure that will not open accidentally, even under weight. Unlike simple hooks, the snap mechanism requires intentional pressure to open, making the hooks ideal for bags that carry heavy items or that are used daily.
🎨 What you can create
Snap hooks are perfect for crochet bags with removable straps, cord shoppers with interchangeable handles, bucket bags with metal chains, evening clutches with thin straps, handmade backpacks with adjustable shoulder straps, and accessories for artisanal leather goods.
👩🎨 Who it is suitable for
Snap hooks are suitable for both beginners and experts. Installation is simple and does not require special tools: just attach the hook to the ring or loop provided on the bag. Even those who are new to creating handmade bags can achieve a professional result.
They are particularly appreciated by hobbyists who make crochet bags, artisans who work with leather and faux leather, and those who sell handmade accessories online. The variety of finishes and sizes allows you to customize every project while maintaining a high quality standard.

📌 Important note
The measurements provided refer to the inner diameter of the snap hook. Always check compatibility with the thickness of the strap or handle before purchasing. Swivel snap hooks have a slightly larger footprint than fixed models. Electroplated finishes may have slight variations in shade between different batches.
